Insulin Pump Administration

Intensive insulin therapy using an external insulin pump.

The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, completed in June 1993, was a landmark study that offered proof that intensive therapy reduced long-term complicationsof diabetes. Intensive therapy is best achieved with 3 to 4 insulin doses per day or with continuous insulin infusion via a pump.

The clinical staff of Diabetes Clinical Services is eminently qualified to iniate insulin pump therapy on an out-patient basis, having more than 20 years of out-patient insulin therapy experience. Our program includes an assessment for appropriateness of pump therapy, pump selection, basic programming, and integration of pump operation into daily health activities.
